I've seen quite a few people do posts like this, and I thought it was a good idea. I didn't pleasure read nearly enough in 2008, and I'd like to change that. Recs appreciated.

Eureka Jan. 6th, 2009 @ 05:25 am
I just watched the Eureka episode "Bad to the Drone" (the one with Jonathon Young). This is only the second one I've seen. I remember watching one when Michael Shanks was guest starring as a hot and sweaty artist. I quite like Carter, and I think I'll probably try to get a hold of some Season One DVDs and check it out from the beginning. Soon, I can join those of you on my flist who have been doing squee posts for the series, lol.

Maybe I'll type up some actual thoughts on the episode I watched tonight later on. What I'll say for now is that Jonathon Young's character was adorably nerdy and darling.

Is there anything I need to know about the series? Any fantastic characters or ships I should watch for? Favorite episodes?

Also, random thing I realized back when I watched the first episode I saw: Joe Morton, who plays Henry is the dude from Brother from another Planet.

Ye olde meme Jan. 5th, 2009 @ 07:11 pm
Snagged from all over my flist. An oldie but goody:

The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.

Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you!

And remember that my students or 14-year-old cousin could easily stumble across this journal, so keep it clean. :)

» B-Day and Fic question
I'd like to be all cool and act like I remembered Joe Flanigan's birthday, but I have to credit a few peeps on my flist for reminding me. :P So Happy Birthday to Joe! He ages really well, because he looks even hotter than he did in Season One!

Also, can someone point me toward some angsty Lorne fics? I'll read most any Lorne pairing, but my preferences for today are either Lorne/Parrish, Lorne/Zelenka, or Lorne/Sheppard.
» Pivitol Moments on TV
Other than wanting to post so I could use my lovely new icon, I wanted to post this meme.

Five TV Moments You Still Remember (And Probably Won’t Forget):

1. Thomas Magnum shoots Col. Ivan (Magnum PI): This was one the pivotal moments of my youth, because as a young writer, I realized that the good guys didn't necessarily always have to do the right thing.

2. The Fourth Doctor regenerates into the Fifth Doctor (Doctor Who): I couldn't find a proper clip of the scene. For those unfamiliar, Kate Bush was not singing as Tom Baker regenerated into Peter Davison. :P Anyway, Baker was my first Doctor.

3. Kate Todd dies (NCIS): I saw this the first time it aired, and it got me because I wasn't spoiled for it. I remember just sitting there like WTF!

4. Archie says goodbye to Edith (Archie Bunker's Place): This scene still makes me cry. It also makes me miss my dad. My parents remind me a lot of Archie and Edith. :/

5. Mike Donovan discovers the true nature of the alien Vistors (V: The Miniseries): This was my first real fandom, and I still remember the thrill of seeing this unfold as it first aired. You'd go to school the next day, and everyone would be talking about it.
» Music and TV
I was reading a post by [info]moodymuse19 today, and it got me to thinking...

TV shows use music all the time, sometimes really well, and sometimes it's just forgettable. Are there songs that were so well used within the show that you will always associate with a particular TV fandom now? Songs that were such inspired choices that they are permanently etched in your mind, meshed with a character or a scene (other than the obvious theme songs)? For me, "Solitary Man" by Johnny Cash will always make me think of SGA now. "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" by CCR is inextricably linked to SG-1. "I Can't Decide" by the Scissor Sisters will always make me think of Doctor Who.

And of course, there's this, from Ally McBeal:

:D

Any songs like that for you all?
» Movie question
Okay, In the course of looking for Steve Earle's "Galway Girl" on YouTube, I recently became aware that Jeffrey Dean Morgan is in P. S. I Love You. I knew that Gerard Butler and James Marsters were in the movie, I but I managed to resist. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, though... I normally don't watch movies like this. Is Jeffrey Dean Morgan in it a lot? Is the movie mindless drivel? Is it overly maudlin? Should I torture myself for the guys or not?
» Johnny Cash observation
I don't think this is a spoiler, but... )
» Icon Meme and other stuff
I got up way too late today, and now I feel like the day has just evaporated. I did get some things accomplished, though. I went to the store (managed to forget to buy sweet tea) and got groceries.

I bought X-Files, Season 1 on DVD while I was out, so I have some binging ahead of me tonight. Yay! Still working my way through Poltergeist: The Legacy. So much love for that show after all these years.

Also, I'm about half-way through a Lorne/Ronon fanfic inspired by one of the prompts on [info]ronon_lorne.

I'm playing around with my icons, deleting some and adding more. It seems like an appropriate time for an icon meme. Look through my userpics and tell me:

1. Your favorite.
2. Your least favorite.
3. One that makes you automatically think of me.
4. One that you think I should TOTALLY use more often.
5. One that you don't get/needs more explanation/you have no idea why the hell I have it.

Also, instead of having The Pogues' "Love You Til the End" stuck in my head, it has been replaced by Johnny Cash's "Solitary Man." Many of you know why. :D

Boy, some of the people in the Doctor Who fandom are dicks. I mean, I knew that but for crying out loud...

» How do I manage to do these things?
I think I might have to buy Season 10 of Stargate: SG-1 on DVD again, because I can't seem to find the disc with "Unending!" D:
» Random Doctor Who moment
You know who I'd love to see as the next Doctor? Dominic Keating.

» Subject line is groggy
I'm incredibly exhausted, and I don't know why. There are times I wonder if I'm anemic or something. Does anyone else out there feel worn out, even after you've slept for several hours?

Right now, I'm rewatching Season 3 of Poltergeist: The Legacy. It's amazing that after all these years, I'm still a little in love with Martin Cummins and Derek DeLint. Last year, I made myself watch Kyle XY, a show I really don't enjoy, so I could see Martin.

One of my neighbors is baking bread, and it's making me hungry. I love the smell of baking bread.

Okay, back to Martin and Derek.

THE NEW YEAR RECOMMENDATIONS MEME

» We survived another year!
I wouldn't feel right if my first post of 2009 wasn't a Happy New Year post, so Happy New Year!

If you're driving home from somewhere, be careful.

» Perhaps my last subject line of 2008
I have the urge to buy Mystery, Alaska and Miracle on DVD with some of my Christmas money.

Oh, and Happy early New Years. I'm cooking tonight and may or may not be around, but I'll try to pop back on after the ball drops. I'd feel weird if my first post of 2009 wasn't the traditional New Years well wishes.
